You surely already know how important keywords are for websites. They are the most important element of any optimization strategy for positioning. However, you may not realize that choosing popular keywords will not always bring the expected effect in the form of gaining valuable traffic from the search engine, which should translate into generating a lead for your company. Therefore, the question arises: what is a long-tail keyword phrase and what do we do to achieve the conversion we want?

Most of the content on websites is based on popular keywords that have a high number of searches on Google. However, we forget about their longer counterparts, which in many cases turn out to be more profitable. Long-tail keywords define the user’s intention in a very precise way, thanks to which the search engine can better select the search results. Moreover, if you decide to supplement your strategy with long-tail phrases, you will face less competition. This means that getting a high position in search results will be much easier.

Long-tail keywords: what is it?

Long-tail keywords are a type of search query that consists of at least three words. Both search engine users and website owners reach for them when the goal is to narrow the search results to specific results. These types of phrases are very specific in many cases. When it comes to generating organic traffic from the search engine, there is less of it. However, it must be remembered that this is very high-quality traffic. As a result, we can get a higher conversion rate than when we focus on regular, general keywords. Many people ask: are keywords long tails can be composed of two or fewer expressions? The answer is yes and no.

You can look at such a phrase in two ways:

  • it will be composed of many words – then we are dealing with the standard understanding of the long tail keyword ;
  • it will be one or two words, but it will describe in great detail what we are currently looking for.

A third option is also available. This is a completely new phrase for the search engine, which is made up of one or two phrases. Nevertheless, it is called a long-tail keyword phrase because it generates specific user traffic with very clearly defined intentions. A long-tail keyword consists of searches and granularity. This means that the more specific a phrase, the lower the number of searches it has by Internet users. If we look at it logically, many of us will surely find that using long-tail keywords is pointless. The goal of each of us is to reach the largest possible number of recipients. It must be remembered that popular keywords have a much smaller scope than words with a long tail. Therefore, you can risk a thesis that specific phrases are typed into the search engine more often than the most popular keywords.

Why do long-tail keywords increase conversions?

To make it as simple as possible, here are some advantages:

  • long keyword phrases are how most of us search the web. We don’t want to waste time browsing popular pages in the search results. We want to find the information that really interests us really quickly;
  • long-tail keywords guarantee the search context. This means that we support the search engine in finding the best search results ;
  • long phrases have a better CTR. This means that they increase the click-through rate and attractiveness of search results;
  • long keywords help in getting a high ranking for popular keywords. Almost all of them contain one or two popular keywords. They have an additional expression attached to them to narrow them down;
  • long-tail keywords are a real mine of topics for a blog.

How to Find Long-Tailed Keyword Phrases

As you do this you should collect your best results into a spreadsheet. This is research I’m working on for website design. When you start analyzing the competition you will be amazed what your competition gets traffic for. I also discovered that Google has not just hit me with low results … my competition is suffering too. The reason being is there is probably millions of web pages for web design. I have pages that are indexed but never get any exposure. The reason being is that only so many of those can be the best and the Google algorithm pushes the others down the list so far they never get seen.

This set of keywords compiled in April 2022 is mostly words below a 25 competition on Ubersuggest with a decent search volume per month. The subject is anything I could find somehow related to web design, marketing, and SEO. This below is weeks of work so if you can use it please give me some kind of credit … at least drop me an email and say thank you.

Keyword Planner

Another of my favorite for finding a long-tailed keyword phrase is the Google tool Keyword Planner. It is one of the best keyword search helpers. It allows you to find the right phrase for positioning and assess its potential effectiveness. Each of the owners of a website or online store can take advantage of this option very easily. All you need to do is create a Google account and log in to the AdWords system. Then click on the tools and choose the keyword planner option.

In the panel that appears, expand the tab Search for new keywords by phrase, site, or category and fill in the appropriate fields. Fill in the product or service space, adjust filters and click the view suggestions button. This way, you will receive information about keywords that may match your company’s profile. It is a long list that contains information to aid in constructing a Long-Tailed Keyword Phrase.

Pay attention to the parameters: average monthly number of searches and competition. It is these factors that will be the most important hint for you. If the competition is marked as high or medium, it means in practice that many other companies are positioned for such a phrase, which reduces your chance of a breakthrough.

So you have to choose from the list the keywords whose competition was found to be low and start creating your own keyword database based on them. With long-tail optimization, your business will be able to reach a large number of users who will find exactly what they were looking for on your site!

Ubersuggest by Neil Patel
The application offers many more valuable functions today than in the past. In addition to data such as suggesting new and popular or long keywords, it also tells you the number of searches for a given phrase per month, CPC costs, and their competitiveness. However, it must be remembered that any tool can be wrong. Therefore, not all statistics should be taken as a starting point. However, you can be guided by them indicatively.

It certainly cannot be accused of not being optimized. It’s worth taking a look at Wikipedia’s long-tail keyword solutions. Just open a long article and see what the table of contents looks like.
