Press Release Writing With National Distribution

Press releases are a great way to get a distributed link presence across the web. SEO with Google requires this from various sources. A good variation of link sources such as news websites, blogs, social media, and even other sites linking to your valuable content is needed to build the site’s DA (Domain Authority). Link building took a big hit a few years back with Google because of the abuse it was getting. But they cannot throw it out of the algorithm entirely. Google was built on determining a web page’s importance based on linking structure.

The press release will cover various events related to the life of the company and it is important that they are presented in an interesting form. This is because the press release largely depends on whether the media will devote even a little time and space to informing about what happened in your company. We will briefly present the rules for writing press releases and what to pay attention to when creating them.

What Is A Press Release

By definition, a press release is a short piece of information about an event. In notes, one should avoid sophisticated language, rich descriptions, subjective opinions, or author’s comments – one of its basic tasks is to inform and it is the information layer that should be focused on most intensively. It is the press release that determines whether a given medium is interested in what happened in your company and devotes some space to it in its pages or during the airtime.

Quality of Press Release

Nowadays, one can observe a certain phenomenon concerning press releases more commonly in the media. Previously, it was in some way an inspiration for a journalist who tried to deepen the knowledge contained in it, to get to other information. Today it is extremely common, especially in the Internet media, that press releases are completely pasted as the content of articles, without additional information or comments from the journalist. Bearing in mind such a phenomenon, it is even more worth paying attention to the quality of press releases coming out of your company – they can become a representation of your business in the media.

What to Include In A Press Release

A press release may depict various events that are happening in your company or in which your company is participating. This can be, for example, information about winning a prestigious tender, implementing innovative solutions, starting cooperation with a significant partner, organizing open days for young people, but also information about the participation of the company’s representatives in an industry conference, the company’s presence at national fairs, etc. not only information about events that have already taken place. They are also announcements of what will happen – you can mention the company’s preparations for trade fairs, announce the possibility of visiting the production department in the company, etc.

The Principle Of The Inverted Pyramid

Inverted Pyramid

As in most press releases, the inverted pyramid rule should be followed in the note – the most important information should be at the beginning of the text, and the side stories – at the end. Start with a catchy, interesting title. In the lead, provide the most important information, and write what the note primarily concerns. In the first paragraphs, state what happened (or will happen), when, and where. This is the place for basic information about the event. Then, include the statement of the person you consider important for various reasons – this may be the head of the company, the person responsible for organizing the event, or an industry expert. Then you can post a more detailed description of the event, additional statements, the context of the event, its expected effects, etc.

Select Information: Select only the information that you think will be the most important for the journalist. Avoid too extensive descriptions, stick to the rule of “minimum words – maximum content”. Remember to keep the information up-to-date and, most importantly, true. Do not include unverified data in your press release.

Be objective: Avoid the emphasis on descriptions of “the best company on the market, the undisputed leader in your industry across the galaxy,” etc. Focus on specific data. Think how you can authenticate what you write about – will it be specific numbers or maybe experts’ statements? Avoid promotion  – a note is a press release, not an advertising message.

Get in shape: Remember that the note should have a certain length – there are opinions that it cannot exceed two A4 pages, but if possible, try to fit it on one. If the note is longer, use interesting and encouraging headings for further reading. Make the text graphically clear, and don’t overdo it with capital letters and exclamation marks.

Add multimedia: Attach photos from the event, video materials, audio files with statements of people about the event, etc. to your note. The media are very eager to accept such materials and attach them to the published notes. This is obvious, but make sure that the multimedia you add to the note is of high quality.
