The Meaning of Landing Page

To clarify what we mean when we say landing page I would like to define it. It is a page in the website not necessarily connected to the site navigation that has a specific purpose usually related to an ad campaign. The link to the web page often resides with a company like Google that offers PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising. The purpose is to promote a specific product, or service or gain lead data such as emails, phone numbers, and other basic info in exchange for an offer being made. Each landing page is tailored around that particular product, service, or intention towards a particular target audience. There are mainly two types of pages for this task.

Lead Generation Type

In most cases, once the target arrives at the landing page they are presented with what it is and what action to take. For example, if you are giving away a free ebook, The target is required to fill out a short form and sign up for your newsletter to receive said e-book for free. A landing page is very direct and should only have one presentation with one action in mind. Too many choices and it gets confusing. They get the free e-book and you gain a potential sales lead that has agreed to accept your marketing emails. This type of landing page is referred to as Lead Generation.

Click Through Type

The second type of landing page is click-through. This type is used for shopping sites or sales pages where you present a description of a product or service and why it is good for the buyer. It might also present the user with data pointing out why your product or service is better than the competition. After a short presentation, the user is presented with a CTA (Call To Action) button to make the purchase.

Landing Page vs Home Page

Landing Page Creation

The landing page needs to be focused not unlike a runway at the airport, focused and clear to the point with smooth operation. A normal page on your website, for example, your main page often covers many topics, more like rush hour. There is no one single focus. Your plan with the main page of a website is to present as quickly as possible all the offerings of your company with interconnecting links to other parts of the website. A landing page, on the other hand, has only one topic and one action presented in such a way that users are compelled through graphics, words, and layout to take the action you want them to proceed with. If this happens then your landing page design is a success. Before putting it in operation you should test various versions to see what gains the most effective response.

Maintain Credibility

You must earn the customers’ trust within seconds. That is what the landing page is all about. Present to the customer why and what makes your product good for them, why do they need it. You can do this by presenting some technical aspects of the product or service backed up by legitimate testing. Another way to boost your credibility is by having testimonials from previous clients. Whatever you do be careful your sales pitch does not come across as a used car salesman.

Bring focus to your brand. Having your own branding allows the customer to remember your product or service over more generic ones. Brands are hard to build but once solidified they provide strength for your company’s professional image.

Search Engine Optimization

Though not the focus of the landing page design you should always try and include some optimization into it. Since most landing pages get their traffic through paid advertising the main focus is the target audience. Find ways to include keywords without detracting from the presentation.

One main point that is good for both SEO and providing the best landing page, is speed. Be careful with your graphics that they are sized properly and hosted on a CDN (Content Delivery Network) Having your page optimized for speed makes the user more relaxed to view your presentation without the stress of waiting.

Social Share Buttons

If the user is impressed with your presentation they will want to share it with their friends on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Be sure you make that easy by providing the correct share buttons at the end of the topic.

A landing page has many uses. It is not required that it be on your website. Our team of landing page experts can prepare your customized presentation for various platforms.
