An influencer social media is simply an influencer on the internet most active on social media and has a lot of devoted fans. However, do we, by wanting to cooperate with such a person, have an influence on them? We checked it and we reveal the cards.
Influencer marketing – what is worth knowing?
Influencer gains recognition and wide ranges often thanks to extensive knowledge in a specific topic and specialization in a given field. Influencers have a large opinion-forming capacity and also influence the decisions and views of their recipients. Thanks to the role of an expert, they can have great authority, and their statements are perceived as credible.
How does it work
Influencer Social Media Marketing is all marketing activities based on the company’s cooperation with an influencer that mostly utilizes social media but might use other sources as well such as email. The influencer in this case is an intermediary between a given brand and the consumer. Advertising activities in Influencer Social Media Marketing are undertaken through various social media and blogs. They are based on the popularity of a given influencer, but also on its credibility. They can bring great benefits to brands, especially to young audiences.
Here are the reasons why we trust influencers:
- Most often they have a similar lifestyle and social status;
- They have similar hobbies and interests;
- In communication, they mainly use digital media;
- More authentic and credible for the audience;
- Do not put up barriers, remaining within the reach of an ordinary Internet user;
- They often allow their audience to actively participate in their activities.
Advantages of Influencer Social Media Marketing
Influencer Social Media Marketing is a form of brand promotion with a global reach. At the same time, in the lion’s share of cases, it is simply cheaper than advertising in traditional media (television, press, radio). Therefore, it brings a number of benefits to the company. Here they are:
- Accurate reaching the target group – activities in the spirit of Inbound Marketing
- Increase in visibility on Google and website positioning = range
- Brand authenticity – building RTB ( Reason to believe)
- Branding – presenting the brand not only in a friendly but also the original way
Why is influencer social media marketing so popular?
Because most of all it is effective. Research shows that this form of reaching the recipient-client enjoys one of the highest ROI, i.e. return on investment rates. It is not surprising, however: as the analyzes show, we trust and follow recommendations more and more often when making a purchase decision. Here are a handful of statistics:
- 60% of consumers made a purchase influenced by a social media post or blog review (Collective Bias);
- 70% of millennials follow their friends’ opinions when making a purchase decision (Collective Bias);
- Over 50% of people trust the content created by other Internet users to a greater extent than that created by traditional media (Adweek);
- 71% of people are willing to make a purchase based on information that redirects them from social media (HubSpot).
The “dark side of the force” of influencers
Increasing amounts of money invested by brands in cooperation with them result in an increasing number of dishonest influencers, the so-called fake influencers. They use bots to automate the mechanism of comments, following accounts, or liking photos, they buy fans and likes, and build their popularity on support groups.
Here is a concrete example.
American programmer Chris Buetti shared photos of other people and used a bot to handle his profile. He wanted to create the impression that he was a popular New York influencer. As a result, he ate for free at his favorite restaurants, while their owners did not profit from it.
“I had a job, I didn’t have time to sit there and find pictures and post on Instagram and interact and all that stuff. Little by little, since I had that background, I was automating the content creation process,” he said. “I kind of created it from A to Z, perfected it, and then opened up a bunch of Instagram accounts where I kind of just deployed my code and sat back and let it do the work.”
Working with a social influencer
Working with a fake influencer means investing money in activities that have no chance of return. The group of recipients built on the basis of fan farms or bots has zero value for the company. Such a community does not create any ties with the creator (and therefore does not respect his opinion) and is not necessarily interested in the topic posted on the fake account (and therefore messages do not reach potentially interested people).
At this point, however, it must be honestly noted that such activities are largely the result of inadequate assumptions of cooperation, created by the companies or agencies themselves. If the number of followers is the key factor for an agency, hardworking influencers do their best to meet this condition.
