Targeted Audience – Niche Markets

Targeted Audience - Niche Markets

Often the niche markets or left alone by the corporate giants. It is too hard for them to bend over and pick up the low-hanging fruit, the targeted audience. Large business is aimed at volume. You as a small business owner have the advantage of being able to target these areas that are left behind. NIche markets are just another form of focusing on a targeted audience.

Here are a few examples of markets controlled by the corporate giants with niche markets contained within.

  • Shoes
  • Clothing
  • Groceries
  • Furniture

Finding A Niche Market Audience To Target

You can forget about a store in either of these markets that focus on the whole category by itself. Just search Google you will see. These large companies own the keyword shoes, clothing, groceries, or furniture. But they always leave the low-bearing fruit, the specialty areas. It is not in their ability to adjust their huge production process to handle custom or low volume items within a small targeted audience.

For example, you might open a shoe or clothing store that specializes in rabbit leather. The next step would be to see how the competition is using that niche market. I use Ubersuggest for that. You can also Google the Keyword Planner which offers many insights into how many people search for certain topics.

First I looked at Google SERP (Search Engine Result Page) and did not find any large companies selling “shoes made from rabbit leather”. What I found were listings from companies that target niche markets like Etsy, Pinterest, and Alibaba. There were no corporate giants telling On the other hand if I search for shoes I get a list of stores like Shoes.com, Zappos, and Rackroom Shoes. These guys have the big dollars to throw into advertising and I have very little chance as a startup or small business to compete with them in digital advertising directly.

Next, I go to Ubersuggest and check how strong the completion is for this keyword phrase. I discovered it has a lot more competition than I like for the volume of monthly searches. So maybe selling “shoes made from rabbit leather” is a little too competitive.

Targeted Audience

So I go back to my thinking room and start the process all over again until I find a product or service I can easily provide without the competition but has a lot of interest from buyers.

Custom

Customized or custom products are another way to get into a niche market. As with small volumes, the big giants and even China cannot interrupt their mighty production process to do fully custom products. They might offer color differences but their custom is not really custom, it is options. I know this very well because outside of doing custom web design I also have managed a business that builds custom furniture, Glenn Furniture. These two business web design and furniture focused on CUSTOM have been a livelihood for 20 years. I have had no problem with competition from the corporate giants.
