How To WordPress Website Design

WordPress Website Design

I will tell you how to step by step WordPress website design further down this page. But I would be negligent as a website designer myself if I failed to point out the basics of building a website for any use on any platform. With the click of a few buttons, you can easily build a website nowadays. But to build a good website that can be found by potential customers takes a little more effort. I am going to take you step by step through the entire process to set up a functional WordPress website that can be found on the first page of major search engines. If you already know all the details of building a website then just scroll down to the WordPress section.

1 . RESEARCH COMPETITION

Before even starting a website you should spend time looking at what your competition is doing. How do their websites look? What functionality are they using for their customers? How do they display their products or services?

2. DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATION

This is probably the most important step because you and your brand or store name will be reflected in what you choose forever. Now that you have a feel of what your competition is doing it is time to think about what address your website will be found under, examplewebsite.com. You can register a lot of other extensions other than a dot com. But think about it, when you search Google what is the most predominant; dot com. What extension makes you as a customer feel more comfortable; for me dot com. The advantage of other extensions is there are more variations available.

But then again you do not want the dot net of something that someone else owns the dot com of. So best practice is to use dot com websites as limited as they are. Trying to find a product name available as a dot com is nearly impossible. So you have 2 choices.

Use a long phrase that describes your product or choose something so unique no one else is using it. Using a long-phrase for your website name increases your chances of getting found for that phrase by search engines but may be strange to your customers. For example best-furniture-for-house.com

The second option is branding. Branding makes you unique and it is easier to find names one word that have not been registered yet. The drawback to that is no one is going to be searching for your unique name. For example, mooplie.com. That will cost you later on in marketing.

Final note you will need to register that name. You can wait and do it with your hosting company to consolidate everything under one account. Hosting companies will charge a few more dollars to do this for you but it is easiest just starting out. You can use an official registrar as I do and later point the domain name DNS to your host, a little more complicated.

3. HOSTING

For any website WordPress or other platform, you will need a computer that serves the content of your website to the world. Most hosting companies will have an easy install for WordPress in their Control Panel setup.

4. KEYWORD RESEARCH

Before you start developing a website you should have a good idea list of words and phrases you want to be found for. Research again your competition to see what they are doing. The best tool I have found that can do all of this for you is UberSuggest.
