Creating Quality Backlinks

How To Create Backlinks

Getting backlinks helps search engines understand the category of website yours fits into. But getting to know how to create backlinks is difficult. The reason being is that the people you need backlinks from are also your competitors in many cases. Then, there are sites rated high that might be in a similar field but not competing but they will not exchange links with a website lower-rated than they are.

This is how to create backlinks naturally.

  1. Article posting – medium.com is good for a start.
  2. News Releases – these are not as good as they used to be
  3. Quality Content – Providing quality content creates links naturaly from other sites that like what you wrote. These are the best.

Article Submission

You can write articles and post them to websites like medium.com which allows backlinks. This not only gives you exposure from them for the brand but strengthens your own website. I just found yesterday that medium.com allows you to set a canonical URL. This means you can write an article as I am doing here then share it on medium.com without confusing search engines. Setting the canonical URL lets Google and other search engines know that your website is the best source of the original article.

News Releases

A news release is something you can do when you have an event that is worth writing about. I just did one myself on March 15, 2022, to announce that Glenn Website Design is now again seeking out new clients. News release online agencies allow you to insert links, photos, videos, and even an insert of your website. Once released the story gets picked up by thousands of news sources around the country. There are many online Press Release companies but I only have two to recommend.

EIN – Economical and gets you on Google News with minutes of the release being released. I am not sure if they are the best. I have seen very little effect from making the release I just did. BUT it is well known that press releases are not what they used to be for search engines. Just like linking people have abused them to get links.

PRWEB – For me it is expensive. They are more than double the price at EIN. But I made a release with them back in 2005 and it can still be found on various websites today. Could be they are better, or it was just the time before was better for news releases.

Two Types of Links

  • dofollow
  • nofollow

DOFOLLOW: These are the link’s default when you add them to a website. You do not have to tell search engines to follow a link. That is what they do.

NOFOLLOW: These are links that you have to make a little extra effort of either adding the code or in most cases selecting a setting on your web builder platform to say it is a NOFOLLOW link. Why would you use a NOFOLLOW link on your website? It might be a case where you want your readers to reference something but do not want search engines to associate you with it for some reason. Many high authority websites like FaceBook set up NOFOLLOW to eliminate spammy links. Another reason might be someone set up cheating link exchanges with you so you give them a link by giving nothing in return. There are a lot of reasons to use NOFOLLOW, either way, the term/code says it all.

Link Sources

There are two types of link sources.

  • PAGE LINKS
  • SITE LINKS

The first PAGE LINKS could be coming from one website. It might help some but not so much. You do not want 100 links coming from one spammy website that sells links. Getting SITE LINKS from various websites related to yours is the best, especially if they have a high rating with Google.

Links Selling

People that are too lazy or do not know how to create backlinks naturally resort to buying and selling them. Links selling has been big business on the internet almost from the start. In the beginning, buying links was a quick way to get to the top of Google. But so many people started doing this that Google could no longer provide quality results. People were buying links to filthy websites misleading people to click on them.

Google Algorithm

That feared beast webmasters shake in their boots over. It is an invisible monster to some that have tried to cheat the system. But in actuality, it is a program with some number of filters in it that helps Google determine which sites should be listed in their page results. Early on they started using this to filter out the massive amounts of spammy links people had bought up. Now it has maybe a hundred or more criteria. No one but Google knows for sure what they are. It is a guarded secret more closely kept than the Colonel’s recipe. But for the most part, good ole common sense is what they are using. Google has a goal of providing every user exactly what they are looking for.

How To Create Backlinks Naturaly

The best way to get links is by creating excellent high-quality content. If you want to build a following and create links to it you need to have a system that produces quality content on a regular basis. I have started to write an informative web design article on a regular basis here in this blog. Never been much of a blogger until now. But I do have 20 years plus some of doing website design and the best way for me to rebuild my business is by sharing what I know.

Social Media Links

Getting links from social media is another way and is expected by search engines. If your website has quality content it will start to be talked about on various social media platforms. There are many more but I have named a few that I respect as good sources to spread the word and get quality backlinks.

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • TikTok
  • Reddit
  • LinkedIn
  • Medium
  • Quora

If you are very, very good at marketing or just lucky you will get a viral conversation about your website, product, or service. Once people start talking they want to tell their friends how to find what they are excited about. This creates a lot of social backlinks to the content of your site.
